Fitness

Fitness is one of the most important components of preventive health. A regular exercise program can significantly improve the likelihood of a healthy life. It doesn't matter which form of exercise you choose, so long as you do it. Remember, age is not a factor when it comes to exercise. Young people, as well as old can enjoy the many benefits of regular exercise.
One of the most important benefits of exercise is its positive influence on personal habits. People who exercise regularly usually become more health conscious and are more likely to modify or eliminate unhealthful practices such as smoking and overeating. Consider the many additional benefits of exercise and find at least one or more reasons to commit to your own personal fitness program.
  • Reduces your risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, diabetes and obesity
  • Improves flexibility so it's easier to move around
  • Improves muscle tone and strength
  • Helps relieve tension, stress and anxiety
  • Contributes to your mental well-being and helps in the management of depression
  • Increases your energy and endurance
  • Helps you sleep better
  • Helps you maintain a normal weight by increasing your metabolism
  • Increases "good" (HDL) cholesterol
  • Boosts self-image
  • Provides fun and enjoyment
  •       How much exercise do you really need? Most experts agree that exercising 20 minutes three times a week is enough to improve fitness. As you improve your fitness level, you may want to work up to four to six times a week for 30 to 60 minutes at a time. Remember, though, that exercise has so many benefits that any amount is better than none.
It is generally recommended that you talk to your doctor first before beginning any new exercise program. This is especially important if you are over age 35, have previously been inactive, have any health problems, or are pregnant. When you begin an exercise program, remember to start out slowly and gradually increase how hard you exercise and for how long.
Most people would agree that the most challenging part of an exercise program is sticking with it. Try choosing an exercise that you like to do. Also, vary your routine so you won't get bored. Try to find an exercise partner, choose a comfortable time of day, and make your exercise fun. Most important, establish specific and realistic goals and schedules.
As you plan your fitness program, keep in mind that there are three types of exercise: strength (calisthenics and weight training); endurance/aerobic (walking, running, cycling, swimming); and flexibility (stretching and bending). Try to include all three in your exercise routine for a more balanced workout.
Remember, to realize the benefits of exercise, it needs to become a habit. No amount of exercise can guarantee a long life. However, even moderate amounts of exercise goes a long way toward improving your health. Your fitness level, along with other healthy lifestyle behaviors, plays a major role in how well you feel, what illnesses you avoid, and how much you enjoy life.
Research has shown us that specific nutrients may benefit your fitness efforts. For individuals who take their fitness seriously, sports nutrition supplements may elevate your performance and boost your overall fitness program.
